That's What She Said

Tempting Temptation

These are not Melissa Meyer bracelets. Close, but no cigar. These are gold and silver bangles with precious stones. They cost a bit more, but totes worth it.

Manicure Monday

The holiday weekend kind of threw me for a loop, but I'm getting back in the groove. Better late than never, right? So, without further adieu . . . . this week, I once again chose from our latest collection of butter LONDON. I was instantly attracted to the bright cobalt blue of Blagger.

I mean, how couldn't you? It's bright and peppy and happy and perfect for this humid transition between the brief season of Spring and the long Summer ahead.

Look Like a Lady

Ever panic when you let your mind slip away and suddenly, you're roped in to obligations and arrangements you had completely forgotten about? In fact, you were positive they weren't for another week or two, thus giving you plenty of time to prepare for it.

It's the 'oh, crap' moment we are all too familiar with.

If you've let Easter slip up on you and you're not sure what to wear to sunrise services or Easter brunch or the afternoon egg hunt or all of the above, fear not because we've got you covered.

Remember, Easter is not a time to show all the bits. It's a religious day and should be approached with respect. Even if you aren't particularly religious in that aspect, it's still not the time to show the world what all you've got in broad Spring daylight. Thankfully, respect doesn't mean boring or ugly. Let's keep it classy, ladies.

Try to stay away from anything too dark or heavy like black or wool. Instead, opt for lighter and brighter colors like pastels and jewel tones in floaty fabrics like chiffon or something more classic like cotton. These two rules will do several things to boost your appearance. One, it will keep you cool with the lighter fabrics and will avoid the awful sweat stains that are bound to happen after watching/laughing at/chasing small children as they search for hidden eggs and candy. Two, pastels and/or jewel colors look great on everybody and will enhance even the slightest tan, making you glow and seem happy and cheerful.

Want to go all the way? Try some of Melissa's latest baubles, just in time for Easter.

Easter Eggs = Surprise

So, tomorrow is Easter. Therefore, a giant white rabbit will be trespassing into your home to leave colorful eggs filled with sweet little nothings tonight while you dream sweet dreams without a care in the world. Creepy? Not really if Mr. Easter Bunny did his job right and saw us before hand, or sent a non-furry friend, and picked up a Skosh necklace to fill said plastic containers with. They're stylish, delicate, feminine and come in a variety of styles to fit every personality. Have a Happy Easter with Skosh from River Bridge!

Manicure Monday

They're finally here! The new butter LONDON shades. Now, I'll be doing a post solely dedicated to them shortly, but in the meantime, it's time for Manicure Monday and, naturally, I chose one of the new hues for the week.

I chose the coral 'Jaffa' this week. As coral is one of the biggest beauty trends for Spring, it made complete sense. It's also a really pigmented shade, it's full potential reached in only two coats. The color is bright and vibrant and fun. As in what's I've recognized as standard butter LONDON, minimal chipping and quick drying time. Double score for a week all ready packed with pre-Easter festivities.

The Boots of Summer

In other places in the country, this would probably be considered a fashion faux pas. However, thankfully by the grace of God we live in the South. Special exceptions can be made when it comes to boots outside Father Winter's grasp.

I know I've been the main one banging on about how excited I was to wear sandals again now that the weather is finally cooperating with me, but I realized this weekend, I was not quite ready to put away my boots as I thought I was. I've recently found myself slipping on those brown leather wonder-boots with a pair of shorts. Then again the next day with a floaty dress. The effect is always a juxtaposition.

On top, a feminine, delicate effect that softly shows the proper curves with girly colors that make our skin glow. On the bottom, a tough, masculine effect with stitching and buckles to add a touch of badassery to the outfit.

Sugar and Spice make everything nice and all that jazz.

It also rings of easy bohemian, which I always strive for, personally.

Another pro factor with boots and dresses is that it helps you save some money. Who doesn't love that? Instead of buying sandal after sandal to make sure something always matches your outfit, effectively blowing your summer budget before summer is even officially here. You can, instead, swap out what you have with your boots, making it easier to save up for that more expensive, fabulous pair of sandals you have been drooling over forever.

On the flip side, there can be ways of taking it too far that make you look like you're trying too hard or you just don't know what the high is supposed to be that day.

First and foremost, don't layer heavily when you're wearing boots with a dress or shorts. I understand the natural need to balance out your outfit, but you and I both know you'll never be comfortable with leather boots on the bottom, a shirt, vest, hat, and a gaggle of necklaces, rings and bracelets on the top. I'm sweating just thinking about it and I'm sitting on top of a vent as I type this.

Secondly, try to avoid boots during the day during the month of July or one of those record breaking days. No matter what you wear on top, within an hour your feet will be sweating and sweating feet lead to funky feet and, I do believe I may speak for all when I say, nobody likes that.

But you should know that. Why? Because we're Southerners and it's not like I'm preaching something newfangled. We've been doing this since forever. It's a part of our Southern grace and style. Like sweet tea and seersucker.
